Voice Module: How Does It Works And What Are The Advantages?

By Danny Wiersma

A voice module makes use of a RF transceiver and a baseband chip. The target of a voice module is to convert speech to text and vice versa. A voice module can be used with computers, the user should have a microphone and a software program which should be installed on the computer. The user can speak in the microphone and the computer performs the action given by the user. By using a voice module, the staff of a company can save time because he can, for example, talk through the microphone and in the meanwhile search through papers.

A transceiver is a mechanism, which exists of a transceiver chip, that has both a transmitter and a receiver which are combined and share common circuitry or a single housing. A transmitter is an electronic mechanism which propagates signals, like radio and other telecommunication types. In other words, a transmitter sends signals to a receiver with the aid of a antenna. In the case of a voice module, a RF transceiver picks up the signals spoken by the user and translates them technically in actions performed by the computer.

An cordless phone uses an transceiver for audio as well as video in the handset and in the base station. In contrast with a cordless phone, a wired phone uses only a transmitter and receiver for the audio in the handset. The phone was wired with a wire to the base unit. An example of a RF transceiver is the well-known walkie-talkie.
